Summary
The question of what Noa saw through the telescope at the end ofKingdom of the Planet of the Apescontinues to haunt Owen Teague. The actor played the newest lead ape in thePlanet of the Apesfranchiseand starred in the recent hit, which takes place generations after Caesar’s death. Towards the end, Noa excitedly looks through a telescope and sees a strange discovery, but the audience is never quite shown what Noa is actually looking at.
In an interview withForbes, Teague elected to dismiss one possible option. While some theories concluded that Noa saw the Icarus, the ship that carried the original human stars of 1968’sPlanet of the Apes, Teague revealed thathe likely did not see the astronauts returning home. Because they are too early in thePlanet of the Apestimeline, it has to be another distant discovery. Check out his full quote below:

I don’t think they see the Icarus because timeline-wise we’re not far enough in the future yet to be there. I believe the ’68 movie happens in 3,000-something [3978]. It’swayin the future. you’re able to see the time in the crash-landing scene. We’re only 300 or 400 hundred years after Caesar so we’re in 2300 or 2400, so I don’t think we’re there yet. I don’t want to be there yet because we have a long way to go to get to the ’68Apesmovie society.
I hope at some point it links up and I want it to link up. I want to see what Noa’s role is in the creation of the Dr. Zaius-kind of world because inKingdomwe introduce the idea of the Lawgiver as Raka calls Caesar the Lawgiver. [It makes me wonder] how does that term get carried down through the generations? What does Noa do with that term?I don’t think it’s the Icarus.I think it’s more of a metaphorical thing. It’s like they both know that there is more out there and Noa has seen it through that telescope.

Noa has begun to learn history. He’s beginning to understand the world and even at the end of the movie he fully doesn’t get what’s going on. He doesn’t know the true history. He hasn’t read books but he knows that he can and he can find out. The same is true of Mae in that apes are not what she thought. There are a lot of conflicting ideas at the end and I think that’s what that ending means.”
What Did Noa See In The Telescope?
The Answer Has Not Yet Been Revealed
Whatever Noa sees in the telescope certainly excites him and his companions. Yet,the conclusion is left completely to the audience’s imagination, as Noa and the other characters never quite reveal what was so exciting. Even director Wes Ball has been cagey about the true purpose of Noa’s discovery and the influence that it will have on the various kingdoms of the apes. While space has always been integral toPlanet of the Apes, this movie is far more about Earth than about the void beyond it.
Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Cast & Character Guide
Owen Teague leads the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes cast as Cornelius. But who else is starring alongside him and what characters do they play?
While Teague insists that it is not the Icarus, there is a chance that he is not correct about theKingdom of the Planet of the Apesending. His quote is filled with various indications thatTeague is simply speculating, rather than providing a conclusive answer about the telescope. He often says “I hope”, “I don’t think”, and “I want”, showing that Teague also does not have much insight into the true reality of what Noa sees through the telescope. For now, Teague is seemingly speculating about Noa’s future.
The upcomingKingdom of the Planet of the Apessequelwill undoubtedly focus on what Noa saw. It could reveal that he noticed a different ship filled with human travelers, a roaming satellite, or even a comet or black hole. Other planets could also draw Noa’s attention, and it may produce a culture of wanting to explore space among the apes. There are many different possibilities, butKingdom of the Planet of the Apesis likely not alluding to the Icarus for all the reasons that Teague provided.
