Warzone reportedly dialling back crossover skins over fears of looking “stupid”
A new report has claimed thatWarzonedevs Raven Software and Activision are set to ease up on crossover skins after fans criticized the look of the game in recent years.
For many years,Call of Duty‘s aesthetic was gritty and realistic, with most of the playable characters and skins being designed as believable soldiers fighting in a war. In recent years, though, especially since the launch of Warzone, the series has strayed from this approach.
Colorful Operators with wacky themes and Crossovers with major franchises have become the new normal, with Black Ops 6 alone featuring collaborations withTeenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesandThe Terminator.
While some players have welcomed the influx of crazy cosmetics, others miss the more grounded vibe of old-school CoD.
Now, according to trusted leaker ‘TheGhostofHope,” it appears the devs might be taking the criticism on board.
Activision set to show “more restraint” with Call of Duty skins
On April 8, the leaker posted a report breaking down how Activision and Raven Software have reacted to the uptick in players since Verdansk came back inSeason 3. It mostly mentioned that the update has exceeded expectations, but there was also some information about their approach to crossovers going forward.
“They are talking about showing more restraint with Warzone for skins/bundles/microtransactions,” said the leaker on X. “Crossovers are ‘printing money’ but they hear the criticism that the game is starting to look stupid.”

Later, in a reply, they went on to clarify that this doesn’t mean that Warzone will no longer get crossovers, but more care might be taken to ensure they work within Call of Duty.
“I think they’ll just be more picky with them so they actually fit as a crossover and not that they’ll completely get rid of them,” they explained.

This will be welcome news for Warzone players who felt that the influx of colorful characters has ruined the game’s realistic feel, as there has been a vocal portion of the community who believe that the devs have taken too much influence from Fortnite’s success.
Only time will tell how exactly this plays out, as Season 3 has already brought Jay and Silent Bob Operators and a host of other quirky skins. But at the very least, it appears that we’ll see fewer wild crossovers in the future.
