Venom’s Home Planet Klyntar Marvel Comics History Explained

In Marvel Comics,Klyntar is an artificial planet on which Venom hatched and where the race of symbiotes ostensibly call home, though their tendrils extend instinctively across the universe. Both the symbiotes and the planet were creations of the primordial entity, Knull - a de facto god who preceded the creation of the universe and ruled within the “living abyss.” The planet served as the “Symbiote Throneworld,” created as a space from which Knull could rule and deploy his symbiote creations to snuff out all forms of light encroaching on the abyssal darkness to which his power was inextricably linked.

This put him in direct conflict with light-bringing Celestials, whose creations Knull would consume with his vast symbiote army throughout millennia. Eventually, intervention by Thor would cause some symbiotes to break from the hivemind and rebel against Knull, as notions of nobility and honor begin to “infect” a rebellious subset that would later dub themselves “Agents of the Cosmos.” This led to the symbiotes imprisoning their creator within the center of the Symbiote Throneworld before calling the planet “Klyntar,” the symbiote word for “cage,” and using the same name for the symbiote race.

What Venom: The Last Dance Cost To Make & How Much It Needs To Succeed

Venom 3 is set to be the final film in the trilogy, and box office projections aren’t incredible, although the film may wind up profitable.

Though the god remained trapped in its core, the artificial Klyntar would appear as a natural planet like any other from which the symbiotes originated and would be visited by multiple Marvel characters over several years. Eventually, Knull was freed afterCarnage’s rampage on Earth(unwittingly brought about by Eddie Brock himself), whereupon he destroyed Klyntar and turned its composite symbiotes into an army of symbiote dragons. This gave way to one of the most monumental threats faced by Brock and the heroes of Earth in Marvel Comics, as Knull was free to inflict his dark will once more.

Klyntar Symbiotes Powers Explained

Knull’s symbiote creations took the same name as the planet on which Knull was imprisoned. The symbiotes all share similar powers to those displayed by Venom, with slight variations. Knull’s intentions for the Klyntar race were to combat deities, bestowing them with a power capable of destroying planets, stars, and gods alike.All-Black the Necrosword, as seen wielded by Gorr the God Butcher inThor: Love and Thunder,is one of Knull’s most powerful symbiote creations designed specifically for this purpose.

Klyntar are amorphous and able to shapeshift and expand at will, almost regardless of the shape they are trying to manifest. The race is typified by their ever-expanding tendrils, which can be used as extra limbs to engulf, imitate Spider-Man’s webbing or many other uses. The race is also synonymous with their need to find a host, however, which is where the designation of “symbiote” stems. When a suitable host is found, the Klyntar can demonstrate their full potential, which includes protecting and empowering their host.

Individual Klyntar powers can vary slightly; Carnage’s unique ability to manifest weaponry, for instance, isnot a skill that Venom typically shares. As is also the case with Carnage, a “genetic memory,” means that asexually-reproduced Klyntar spawn can imitate and improve upon the abilities demonstrated by their parent. This usually makes younger symbiotes more fearsome than their parents, though symbiotes can improve their skills over time. Other shared powers include near-invulnerability, the ability to prolong their hosts' lives, super strength, and a strong situational awareness comparable to spider sense.

Klyntar Comics Changes Explained

Though Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has taken ample creative liberties thus far (including the conspicuous omission of Spider-Man), the franchise is not shying away from Venom’s extraterrestrial origins and mentions of his homeworld. 2018’sVenomsawRiot attempting to spark a full-scale invasionof Earth from Klyntar. Yet there are a few key differences between the Klyntar of the comics and those of Sony’s live-action franchise.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage

For one thing,Venom being the only Klyntar not entirely hellbent on bloodlust and destruction does not gel with the notion that he is actually one of many symbiotes capable of empathyand a sense of honor after Knull’s imprisonment. Instead, the movie franchise appears to be painting the Klyntar as a hostile alien race of which the Venom symbiote is a sole outlier. Furthermore, despite mentions of his homeworld andbillions of years of hive knowledge, Venom has been noticeably mute on the presence of Knull - which, in the Venom mythos, is an omission as glaring as Spider-Man’s.

Furthermore, the antagonistic creatures inVenom: The Last Dancearen’t Klyntar. Instead, they are Xenophages. This alien race is similar to symbiotes but hunts them down as delicacies. Their mission in the film is a little bit different, but they are directly related to Knull and what he is hoping to achieve inVenom: The Last Dance.

Knull Explained (Powers, Origin & Mission)

After his first full comic appearance in 2018, Knull finally makes his way to live-action inVenom: The Last Dance.Knull is the creator of the symbiotes, and can control them with his own will. He is a multiversal being of incredible power that can manipulate eldritch darkness to create living weapons. Knull possess god-like durability, healing, and strength. In the comics, the symbiotes eventually overthrew Knull, imprisoning him on his own homeworld and claiming it for themselves.

Venom 3 Director Addresses Knull’s Future In Sony’s Spider-Man Universe: “You Could Never Do One And Done With Knull”

As Knull will be making his live-action debut in Venom: The Last Dance, director Kelly Marcel teases the future of him in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

Prior to the film’s release, the trailers periodically teased the character, hinting at the power he possesses, but Knull actually doesn’t get much screentime inVenom: The Last Dance.Instead, the movie appears to prime the villain to become the big bad in the future of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Still, there is something specific Knull wants, which prompts him to search out Venom and the rest of the symbiotes.

Why Knull Is Attacking Earth In Venom 3

Venom: The Last Dancestarts out with Knull imprisoned after the symbiotes betrayed him and trapped him.He needs to get a codex and sends the Xenophages to Earth in search of one, wanting to destroy the symbiotes when he finally gets free. A codex is created when a symbiote saves the life of their host and their life forces become one. When Venom saved Eddie’s life in the first film, he created a codex. However, the codex can only be seen when Venom is in his full form.

The Xenophages are sent to Earth, but because of this, they aren’t really sent to attack or destroy the planet itself, but rather simply search for the codex. As such, they will only attack humans if they are defending themselves. Of course, this causes all kinds of problems for Eddie Brock and Venom, who are on the run and being hunted down, marking an exciting story forVenom: The Last Danceand the trilogy’s ending.
