Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Jango Fett #4

Summary

Star Warshas revealed that a surprising character gotJango Fettthinking about having a son (Boba Fett). Although he saw himself as “just a simple man making his way through the universe”, Jango Fett was considered the galaxy’s greatest bounty hunter of the Republic Era before his death ahead of The Clone Wars. As such, one of his biggest jobs ever saw him in an unlikely team-up, one that would motivate Jango to start considering how he would leave behind a legacy.

In the final issue of Marvel Comics' canonical series by Ethan Sacks and Luke Ross,Jango Fett #4sees Jango joining forces with Aurra Sing, a classicStar Warsmercenary and assassin whom Jango has previously worked with. Having admired Jango’s ability to handle a young Nakano Lash who will become a legendary bounty hunter in her own right during the Imperial era,Aurra asks Jango if he’s ever thought about having a kid. As such, Jango Fett’s response is quite telling concerning his own established future in theStar Warstimeline:

Aurra Sing Talks to Jango About Children and Legacy in Jango Fett #4

Despite his reservations, Jango seems to agree that he has indeed thought about continuing his legacy in some fashion, and he even concedes that maybe he’ll one day have a child. As such, this all serves as some key foreshadowing for Jango’s future son Boba Fettwho will come to inherit his father’s reputation as the galaxy’s greatest bounty hunter in his own time.

Jango Fett’s New Weapon Proves He’s Star Wars' Coolest Bounty Hunter (Sorry, Boba)

Jango Fett has proven time and again that he’s a cooler bounty hunter in Star Wars than Boba Fett, and his new weapon only solidifies that point.

Aurra Sing Got Jango Fett To Start Thinking About His Legacy

Inspired To Have An Unaltered Clone As His Son

The timing of this newStar Warsis rather significant, taking place just before the events ofThe Phantom Menace. As such, this means that Jango Fett is about to be hired byCount Dooku/Darth Tyranusto serve as the genetic template for the Republic’s secret clone army as teased at the issue’s end. As such,it can be inferred that Aurra’s comments about having a kid stuck with Jango, especially when he requested an unaltered clone to call his son as part of his payment not long after this final issue.

Thanks to Aurra Sing, Jango was motivated to begin considering how he would leave behind a lasting legacy. To that end, Boba proved to be the perfect option, a boy whom Jango could train and take up his mantle long after his death. That said, the fact that it was Aurra Sing specifically who played a small role in Boba’s origins is notable considering her own history with Boba years down the line.

The Inspiration Adds New, Secret Layers To Aurra’s Future WIth Boba

She Was Boba’s First Mentor After Jango’s Death

Following Jango’s death at the hands of Jedi Master Mace WinduinAttack of the Clones, Aurra Sing became Boba’s first mentor as he sought to live up to his father’s legacy (while also seeking vengeance for Jango’s death). While Boba and Aurra eventually had a falling out after their attempts to kill Mace failed, there’s something poetic that the assassin who got Jango thinking about kids was the one who later became one of his son’s first teachers. It certainly helps make their rocky history inthe Clone Warsanimated series even more dynamic and layered than it already was.

Boba Fett

A perfect clone of bounty hunter Jango Fett, Boba Fett inherited his father’s profession and operated as a bounty hunter through the Clone Wars and the Dark Times of the Empire’s reign. Believed killed on Tatooine, he survived and sought redemption of sorts after he was helped by native Tusken Raiders. In The Mandalorian era, Boba Fett now operates as a crime lord - having taken over Jabba the Hutt’s old empire.
