Respawn confirm their new Star Wars FPS game is inspired by classic fan favorites

Respawn Entertainment is hard at work on a Star Wars FPS title, and a new job posting indicates it’ll take inspiration from the classic Dark Forces titles.

Respawn Entertainment indirectly “broke the internet” after reports surfaced that the studio would be doubling down onStar Warsprojects after the widespread success of its Jedi series. The studio’s eyes are set on anFPS title featuring The Mandalorian.

The idea of this project is an exciting prospect, as it gives the studio a chance to lean into its veteran roots of FPS wizardry. It also gives Star Wars fans a new lease on life, with the possibility of a solid FPS title in the franchise and a proper bounty hunter experience after the canceled 1313 entry.

A new job posting has surfaced serving as a double whammy, as it confirms the title and gives insight it takes inspiration from classic Star Wars FPS entries.

The news comes directly fromEA’s site via a job posting, with the publisher and developer looking for a Senior User Interface Artist to work on the Star Wars FPS, practically confirming the title exists.

The other point to note is further in the job description. “Inspired by classic titles like Dark Forces and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2, our story-driven single-player game is being developed from the ground up leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5,” the post states.

Helldivers 2 Fortnite similarities

Released back in 1995, Dark Forces built on the momentum FPS games found with DOOM. It introduced the ability to look up and down and jump, while the second game built on those pillars with lightsabers and other improvements.

With The Mandalorian project, it’s safe to say there’s a lot Respawn can do given the character’s suite of tools and rich history. Combine that with the studio’s pedigree across the Star Wars Jedi series and FPS history, and all signs point positively for fans.
