Summary
Baldur’s Gate 3remains a game in which people can find lots of hidden Easter eggs and dialogue depending on the path that they choose. One player took a path that led to an interesting reveal upon meeting the Emperor, and it recharacterizes the mind flayer in a way few would expect.
The reveal in question comes from Reddit userremarah1447, who posted a video from the beginning of Act Three. When players learn the true identity of the Dream Guardian, a mind flayer known as the Emperor, they ask for proof that the creature is who they say they are. In remarah1447’s post, the Emperor curiously starts by recounting the player’s romance with Minthara, rather than recollecting any of their many other exploits.

This results in a bluntly hilarious scene, with the Emeror candidly saying, “You slept with the drow Minthara. You pleased her.” The person recording the video is immediately astonished and starts to laugh. Many comments on the Reddit post share similar sentiments about how strange the Emperor’s choice of memory is.
Baldur’s Gate 3: Should You Free Orpheus In BG3 Or Side With The Emperor?
One of the many choices faced in Baldur’s Gate 3 involves freeing Orpheus or siding with the Emperor in Act 3, and then living with the consequences.
The Emperor’s Surprising Dialogue Reveals He’s Always Watching From The Astral Prism
The Mind Flayer Is Watching The Party’s Ever Move
The Redditor’s reaction in the video says it all, asthat’s not the first thing one would think the Emperor would say to convince the protagonist to aid them. They could’ve immediately cited the heroic or villainous deeds they did, which was the second thing they noted in the video. Instead, they went to the more intimate details of the protagonists’ choice fromBaldur’s Gate 3’s romance options, which proves a couple things. First, it shows that in the first two acts, the Emperor was watching everything the protagonist did, including the very private moments.
Second, it shows the Emperor wasn’t afraid to continue watching when those private moments got very intimate, even commenting on how this particular protagonist “pleased” Minthara. It should be noted that players can choose to romance the Emperor after they reveal themselves in the third act, with scenes featuring the two characters alone, much like the game’s other romantic arcs. It’s even implied in unused code that theEmperor’s romance could’ve been deeper.

If nothing else, it shows how deep Larian Studios went to ensure that all of its characters and interactions were intertwined. It’s entirely optional to romance the Emperor, as is every romance in the game, and it comes amid another major choice in the game, where the Emperor urges players touse the Astral-Touched Tadpolein order to embrace their illithid potential. The dialogue does raise more questions about what otherBaldur’s Gate 3conversations have more hidden text should the right circumstances be laid out.
