Beating the Jagged Peak Drake inElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtreecan be a daunting task for players who are caught by surprise by this large and imposing dragon menace after a relatively challenging dungeon. The Jagged Peak Drake is but one of the many new and optional bosses in the DLC, though those who wish to progress within the questline for Igon andconsume Draconic Essence inElden Ring’s DLCwill need to go through the dragon boss. This opponent actually appears twice inShadow of the Erdtree, and the fights are relatively different each time.

Dragons can be difficult opponents to face in FromSoftware’s popular RPG due to their massive size and incredible strength. Some of them rely more on physical attacks with their wings, claws, fangs, and tails, while others resort mostly to elemental powers – in this case, the Jagged Peark Drake boss uses a fine mix of tools when fighting your character, so you need to be prepared to adapt strategies on the spot and ensure victory. Of course, the strategy for the two fights against Jagged Peak Drakes changes due to their arenas inElden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

Tips To Beat Jagged Peak Drake In Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree (First Encounter)

Take Advantage Of The Boss’ Weakness & Avoid Using Attacks That It Is Resistant Against

The first encounter you should have with the Jagged Peak Drake will likely occur after completing the Dragon’s Pit dungeon, accessible by heading southwest from the Pillar Path Waypoint Site of Grace. The dungeon is fairly long and has many intertwining paths but, at the end, you should face and defeat the Ancient Dragon-Man boss. By continuing on the path forward, you will be led to the Dragon’s Pit Terminus Site of Grace, which then eventually leads to the Jagged Peak Drakeboss inElden Ring. The path forward is clear of other enemies.

Dragon’s Pit Terminus is your go-to Site of Grace in case you end up dying in the first battle against Jagged Peak Drake.

From a distance, you will see an arena with dead dragons and, in the center, the dormant Jagged Peak Drake boss. Before reaching it, to your left, there is a Summoning Pool. Here, you can choose to summon a coop adventurer to aid you in your efforts. The main tip for the first fight with Jagged Peak Drake is to prepare in advance, taking yourFlask of Wondrous Physickand, if you deem the fight too difficult, using aRune Arc.Because theElden Ringboss is sleeping, you can land a few hits before it becomes a threat.

As is the case with most dragons in the game, the safest place to position yourself is directly underneath its body, regardless of whether you are a melee fighter or a long-ranged spell caster. While you are between the Jagged Peak Drake’s legs, you’re able to easily land hits against it and safely dodge its occasional stomps. The boss will try to jump up high for a smashing landing, but this is also easily avoidable – don’t start dodging until you notice it starts coming down. This boss inElden Ringwill also try to create some distance from you.

Elden Ring: Why You Shouldn’t Kill Caelid’s Big White Dragon

The big white dragon of Caelid may score newbies tons of runes in Elden Ring, but slaying the beast is kind of heinous when looking at the lore.

This is where it gets dangerous. The Jagged Peak Drake’s fire breath can instantly kill your character, especially if you are not using any protection from fire attacks. TheFlamedrake Talisman, for instance, is a good piece of gear to improve your resistance against its fire breath. It is best, however, to not even be hit by its fire breath.attempt to close in the distance as quickly as possible and get yourself underneath its body once again– you can even use theSpectral Steed Whistleto summon Torrent in case you need more speed to avoid the attack.

The Jagged Peak Drake also uses an AoE Lightning attack inElden Ring, though it is extremely telegraphed and easily avoidable – do not despair once you see the attack being prepared.

The Jagged Peak Drake is resistant to Fire and Lightning attacks, which reflect its own skill set, so avoid using weapons and spells of those elements since they will deal decreased damage. Alternatively, you can try to build up Frostbite, which increases the damage it takes. This can be done by using Frost-based spells or theDark Moon Greatsword, for instance. You can also lean into a Bleed build to carve through its HP.

Why The Moonlight Greatsword Is In Every Dark Souls Game

The Moonlight Greatsword, a weapon seen across all the Dark Souls titles, holds a special significance in the history of the FromSoftware studio.

A great strategy to employ when facing Jagged Peak Drake is to use a Spirit Ash. By using theMimic Tear Ashes, for instance, you create a secondary source of damage output, which mimics your own weaponry and gear, also a distraction, allowing you to deal damage and be targeted a bit less while doing so. Having an ally on the field, be they a coop summon or aSpirit Ash inElden Ring, also makes it easier for you to use aFlask of Crimson Tearsto restore HP without being attacked while doing so.

Tips To Beat Jagged Peak Drake In Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree (Second Encounter)

This Time, Two Bosses Will Appear Simultaneously

The second time you encounter the Jagged Peak Drake will be nearby. By following the path north from the arena of the original boss, you will eventually come across a Spiritspring, which you should use while riding Torrent to reach the higher level. By crossing the bridge, you will reach the Foot of the Jagged Peak Site of Grace, which will be your base in case you die in the next boss encounter inElden Ring. As you continue following the path from the Site of Grace, you will stumble upon two Jagged Peak Drakes.

These two bosses are actually fighting each other and, here, you are presented with two options. You can either put yourself in the fray and try and face both opponents at once or wait for the battle to play out and then face only one Jagged Peak Drake with reduced HP – if you are not looking for a challenge, waiting for the battle to be over is recommended, as it should not take too long.

One of the bosses will already be heavily injured and will fall quite easily, but allowing the fight to go on also gives it time to score some damage against the main boss.

Once you are dealing with a single Jagged Peak Drake, the strategy is exactly the same as the one used in the first encounter. There is no nearby Summoning Pool, however, meaningyou will be unable to bring forth a multiplayer ally inElden Ring. You can still use a Spirit Ash in the battle, however – if the icon for it is not appearing, try getting closer to the dragons’ fight. Be wary of trying to hide behind stone pillars to avoid attacks since they break and fire goes past them.
