One new weapon is a chainsaw-rimmed shield, which can be used defensively or thrown to remotely dismember enemies.

Doom: The Dark Ages Expands Doom Slayer’s Lore
Recent Doom Games Have Turned The Doom Slayer Into A Mythical Protector
Doom: The Dark Ages' trailer focused primarily on the gameplay, with Doom Slayer showing off a few new tactics outside of the traditionalfirst-person shooter gameplaythe 30-year-old series is known for.Later sequences show him piloting a giant mech suit to take on larger foes and riding a flying dragon to deliver aerial attacks, with the creature breathing fire into the mouth of another beast in a brutal finishing move.
While the footage didn’t dwell too much on the game’s story, it did open with the text, “Before he became a hero, he was the superweapon of Gods and kings,” suggesting thatthe new prequel will further expand Doom Slayer’s lore. While the protagonist didn’t have an official name in the original games - something one of the games' creators, John Romero, previously stated was to help with player immersion as they could envision themselves in the role - the later titles have provided some more lore surrounding the legend of the character as he is awakened to fend off demonic invasions of Mars and later, Earth.

Hopefully, with the title confirmed to be released in 2025, players won’t have to wait much longer for more information about the game’s new setting and story.
