What Happened in Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc Episode #4?
Tanjiro Trains his Swordsmanship with Tokito
Episode 4 of the Hashira Training arcfeatured Tanjiro joining up with Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito’s training group, who were practicing swordsmanship. Tokito was fairly disappointed with the skill level on display by the other demon slayers, but perked up when Tanjiro entered, very glad to see him. Tanjiro set a good example for the rest of the group, going head-to-head with the Mist Hashira with wooden training blades. The other demon slayers asked Tanjiro if he could perhaps get Tokito to give them a break, and Tanjiro agreed.
Tanjiro ended up suddenly challenging Tokito to a paper airplane contest, to see whose could fly the farthest. Despite being given 10 opportunities, though, Tanjiro wasn’t able to beat Tokito even once, showcasing Tokito’s skill at his hobby of paper airplane construction. The other demon slayers decided to join in as well, and soon everyone was throwing colorful paper airplanes into the sky, although still no one was able to top Tokito. It was a very nice moment of the demon slayers getting to enjoy the peace they’ve fought so hard for, and is sure to be a pleasant memory on their minds heading into the final battle.

Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc Episode #5 Turns its Attention to Genya
Episode 5 of the Hashira Training arc is entitled “I Even Ate a Demon…”, suggesting that Genya Shinazugawa will have a large role to play in the episode. That may mean that Tanjiro’s training withMitsuri Kanrojimay be cut a bit short. Genya, who featured heavily in last season’sSwordsmith Village Arc, is the younger brother of Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa, but the two don’t get along very well. The Hashira Training may force the two to interact for the first time in ages, and things don’t go very well for Genya, who was hoping for some reconciliation.
Sanemi has received a bit more attention this season, having appeared in each episode so far, and particularly prominently in the added demon fighting sequence seen in the beginning of the first episode. Despite this, he’s still one of the least known Hashira, so hopefully this episode forcing him into a confrontation with Genya will help reveal new layers to his character which have thus far remained hidden.

Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc Episode #4 Helps to Humanize the Hashira
The Anime Continues Expanding on the Manga
Much like with the added material inDemon Slayer: Hashira Training Arcepisode 3, episode 4 sees some big changes by extending Tanjiro’s training with Tokito quite a bit. This time, the added material seemed to draw from aDemon Slayerdatabook, which says thatMuichiro Tokitohas a strong interest in origami and paper airplanes. It’s easy to forget, but Tokito is only 14, about the same age as Tanjiro; as such, it’s quite nice to get to see them actually behaving like kids for once, enjoying some time flying paper airplanes.
These moments provide a glimpse at a new side of the Hashira characters, making them less of an unassailable hero and more of a person in the eyes of audiences. This will ultimately help make the Hashira’s struggles in the final battle more meaningful. Overall,Demon Slayer’s expansion of the content is definitely for the best, and fans may come to appreciate it when the final battle does inevitably come around.
