Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Darth Vader #47
Summary
Darth Vaderjust acquired a major new source of power on the Sith world of Exegol, having obtained the means to wield the power of a Death Star in his own hands. Having sought to gather as much power outside his master’s purview as possible, the Dark Lord of the Sith has been quite busybetweenEmpire Strikes BackandReturn of the Jediin a bid to overthrow Palpatine once and for all. To that end, this now includes Vader gaining a destructive new power derived from the same source that powered both of his master’s battle stations.
As seen in the new and canonicalDarth Vader #47by Greg Pak and Raffaele Ienco,Vader breaks up the massive piece of corrupted red kyber Palpatine had long stored away onExegol, the secret Sith throneworld located in the Unkown Regionsand protected by a herd of massive psychic creatures known as Summa-Verminoths. Having recently defeated Palpatine’s Sith Eternal with his own forces, Vader made sure he was well-prepared for the influx of Verminoths the Sith cultists began summoning. As such,Vader finds an extremely destructive use for his newly obtained kyber:

Using his kyberite shield acquired on Ringo Vinda to focus his power,Vader affixed large pieces of the red kyber to the shield and his staff, allowing him to channel the crystal’s brutal energies into a massively brutal blast, one not unlike those fired from the Dearth Stars on-screen.
Star Wars Movies In Order: How To Watch Release Order, Chronologically & With The TV Shows
What’s the best way to watch Star Wars? Here’s everything you need to know to watch in release or timeline order, and how to include the TV shows.
Darth Vader Has Never Been More Powerful
His New Kyber Weapon Provides Some Major Firepower
Having amassed many new power sources in recent issues of this canonicalStar Warsseries, Darth Vader has never been more powerful than he was in the months precedingReturn of the Jedi. Allied with the Schism Imperial which also seeks to see Palpatine removed from power, the Dark Lord also has an advanced droid army at his back, a new energy source taken from the life of a drained planet, and now a devastating weapon Vader can wield in his hand that essentially operates like a miniature Death Star(far surpassing a typical lightsaber.)
As seen in this new issue, the broken and beatenSith Eternal summoned a herd of the deep space creatures known as Summa-verminoths, gargantuan tentacled creatures who reside in the nearby Red Honeycomb Zone, a web of hyperspace anomalies that act as a natural barrier that had long concealed the Sith world of Exgol from the rest of the galaxy. However, the Summa-verminoths and their lethal psychic attacks proved to be no match for Vader, who rides atop his Imperial Shuttle before firing a massive blast of red kyber energy at the gathered kaiju-like monsters.

Darth Vader’s Exegol Attack Is Only The Beginning
First The Sith Eternal, Now Palpatine Is Next
Seeing how Vader already used his Imperial allies and droid army to decimate the Sith Eternal cultists, breaking through and slaying the herd of Summa-verminoths was all the confirmation Palpatine needed that his apprentice’s powers had grown to considerable levels, having felt the awesome display of power through the Force. Interestingly enough,Vader’s son Luke also felt his father’s power, so much so that he was motivated to distance himself from the Rebel Alliance just in case his father came looking for him. This is something that’s indeed teased by this issue’s end.
As a result, one has to wonder how Palpatine will react when Vader turns his full attention to his master in future issues. Even though Darth Vader will eventually bend the knee as seen inReturn of the Jedi, it should be very exciting to see how the Emperor handles his apprentice with all of this incredible new power at his disposal. Likewise, the chance that Vader might also end up meeting with his son before Episode VI would naturally be a huge deal for theStar Warscanon.
