Summary

Few comic-book vehicles are cooler thanBatman’siconicBatmobile, which got a major upgrade that makes it more powerful than ever before. If a hero doesn’t have superpowers, then the odds are that they have an amazing car or plane to get where they need to go — and that is definitely true for Bruce Wayne.

The Batmobile’s new, robotic upgrade debuts inRed Hood: The Hill#5 by Shawn Martinbrough and Tony Akins. In this story, the nefarious forces fighting for control of the Gotham neighborhood, the Hill, finally put their plan into action, which requires them to attackBatman while he’s in his Batmobile. The criminals are led to believe that Batman is in the car, as they can seemingly see him through the window, but this turns out to be a ruse.

The Batbot Defends The Batmobile Against Criminals

When the criminals manage to finally peel away the armor of the Batmobile, it’s not Batman waiting for them, but a large Batman Robot that seems attached to the Batmobile itself. This Batbot springs out and immediately starts attacking the criminals.

The Batmobile’s Robotic Upgrade Has Endless Uses

What Other Features Does Batman’s Car Have?

TheBatmobile has tons of amazing features: not only can it drive incredibly fast, but it’s also got a wealth of security features that make it one of the DCU’s safest vehicles. The Batmobile has motion sensors that can detect anything around it, instantly alerting Batman in case anyone is messing with his beloved car. It has ejector seats that allow users to be launched to safety. Its windows are its toughest material, making the Batmobile practically impenetrable. Most versions of the Batmobile can also be fully remote controlled, either directly or through an AI to be piloted without Batman’s involvement.

As technology and Batman’s needs change, his Batmobile will continue to change with him.

Despite these features, the Batmobile can’t really defend itself — until now. While it could certainly tase people who got too close, it couldn’t actively fight off numerous combatants without being remotely controlled. This new robotic upgrade completely fixes this problem. Not only doesthe Batbot make it easier to convince people that Batman is driving the Batmobile, it makes a great diversion, as it was used in this issue. But the Batbot is also apparently capable of fighting off several criminals at once, only failing because they had unexpectedly advanced weaponry.

The Batmobile Has Always Been DC’s Best Car

Batman’s Vehicles Are an Iconic Part of His Lore

From being a regular car to a suped-up muscle car to an outright tank,Batman’s Batmobile has gone throughtons of changes over the years, and it will likely continue to change in the future. Keeping his identity secret is a major part ofBatman’sstatus quo, and being able to attend a party as Bruce Wayne while the Batbot drives around the Batmobile is by far the coolest upgrade that theBatmobilehas gotten in recent years.
