Warning! SPOILERS about Mayor of Kingstown season 3, episode 2 ahead.

Summary

The second episode ofMayor of Kingstownseason 3 focused as much on the gangs as it did on regular people of Kingstown with Anna’s story, highlighting a recurring problem of Mike’s job after the prison riots of season 1. The informal position of mayor Mike inherited from Mitch put him at the center of all dealings involving the prisons, whether police, gangs, or civilians asked for Mike’s help with it. However, whileMayor of Kingstownseason 1 dealt a lot with civilians asking Mike for help or support within the penitentiary system, seasons 2 and 3 lost that focus.

With the prison riots inMayor of Kingstownseason 1’s ending upsetting Kingstown’s order,Mike spent most ofMayor of Kingstownseason 2 making sure the gangs’ hierarchies within Anchor Bay reflected the order of the same gangs outside. Milo taking advantage of the riots to escape prison and fake his death prompted Mike to spend the rest of his time dealing with him, making the issues of Kingstown’s citizens take a step back. However, withMilo’s fate being locked in byMayor of Kingstownseason 2 and the riots’ aftermath concluding, Mike can finally return to his original role.

Anna’s Story In Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 Proved Mike Forgot About His Clients

The Mayor Never Cared About Just Gangs

Anna’s problem inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 2 was the first one Mike tried to solve after weeks of focusing solely on the gangs or Milo. While Mike still had a lot of other commitments because of the Crips’ drugs ending up killing people, requiring him to come up with a plan to save Raphael from becoming the one on which everyone blamed the contaminated drugs in prison,Mike’s main focus had been Anna’s impossible problem, as she wanted to oppose her son’s killer’s release from prison, but little could be done as the parole board already decided.

Anna opposing her son’s killer being released bringsMayor of Kingstown’s focus back on the regular clients Mike used to help before the prison riots.

Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky in Mayor of Kingstown season 3 episode 1-1

While Mike tried his best to aid Anna’s request, contacting Carney in order to get someone who was actually in StoneBrook and could provide him with some information on Greg,Mike wasn’t as fast to contact Carney’s sister as he was in trying to solve Bunny and Raphael’s contaminated drugs problem. Indeed, although Mike eventually got Anna some updates about Greg inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 2, Mike wasn’t as connected to that matter as he was to the Crips’ dealings, as he learned from Anna that Greg was released that morning, not being practically helpful to her.

Anna Murdering Greg In Mayor Of Kingstown Showed Mike Didn’t Get Her At All

Mike Thought Anna Wanted Support

Mike felt compassion for Anna’s situation, as he could understand her wish for Greg to continue to pay even if he had done his time because Greg had taken away her son from Anna. However,Mike evidently didn’t understand the lengths to which Anna would go to ensure Greg wasn’t free, as he saw Anna as a grieving mother and not as a possible killer. Nonetheless, all of Anna and Mike’s talks inMayor of Kingstownseason 3, episode 2 included hints about Anna’s wish for Greg to die.

Mayor Of Kingstown Season 3 Just Introduced A New Major Player In The Gangs War

Mayor of Kingstown season 3’s premiere introduced various story arcs & even a new menacing leader that could easily kickstart another gang war.

From Anna’s suggestions that “something could happen” before clarifying that she meant for the parole board to reconsider Greg’s release to her viewing Mike and Mariam as lucky as the guy who killed Mitch ended up dead,it was clear that Anna went to Mike not for support on how to deal with the fact that her son’s killer earned his freedom, but to do something to stop Greg’s freedom. Mike not recognizing Anna’s wish for revenge showed how not used to dealing with regular clients he has become after solely dealing with gangs inMayor of Kingstown.
